Fact Mid-year reviews are a common practice, recommended by KDE. What? An intentional reflection and analysis about progress toward the SGG and PGP. Why? To review data and provide support towards successfully reaching the goal of each educator and administrator. How? Consider using a research-based cycle of continuous improvement (PDSA). continuous improvement Misconception: Mid-year reviews are required by KDE

Fact: Those involved in the mid-year review are based on situation. Reviews for SGGs and/or PGPs may take place in: 1. group settings (Professional Learning Community) 2. other teacher teams with an administrator present 3. in one-on-one settings with a teacher and administrator If SGG or PGP initially created using a group structure, then continue with that structure. Misconception: Mid-year reviews must be conducted as one-on-one conferences between a teacher and an administrator.

Fact: Mid-year reviews for SGGs and/or PGPs may take place in one-to-one settings as part of pre- or post-observation conferences occurring at a midpoint of the year. Misconception: Mid-year reviews may not be conducted during other conferences that take place at mid-year.

Fact: Questions may be selected by the administrator. KDE has provided an optional list of sample questions for consideration. Questions may be provided to teachers in advance to enrich the conversations with prior reflection suitable for group or one-to-one settings. Principals may create questions or statement stems that best fit the school’s context/processes/procedures/structures. Misconception: Administrators and teachers must discuss a mandated set of “correct” questions during the mid-year review.

What are some of the benefits of holding and participating in a mid-year review? How might a teacher or administrator prepare differently for a mid-year review than for one at the end of the year? What might an administrator keep in mind when setting up and implementing mid – year reviews that would cultivate a positive culture around the process? Assess progress toward goals by examining data and evidence. Examination of SGG and PGP data and evidence may occur in PLCs, PLN, or in mid- year conferences with the principal. Determine progress made toward the goals and make adjustments to instructional practices. Consider answers to these questions while reflecting on the current progress made on the SGG and PGP. Midyear Review

In what ways have you shown improvement toward reaching your goal(s)? 4. In what areas do you need additional support? 5. How do the activities, materials, and resources in the student growth plan align to the needs of the students, now that you have the new data? 9.
