Today’s lesson Know how blood is transported around the body. Know what system the heart and blood vessels belong to. Know why the heart has two valves Know what the different blood vessels in the body are.

Blood Oxygen and digested food travel around the body in blood. The blood travels around the body in tubes called blood vessels.

Blood vessels There are three main types of blood vessels

Blood vessels capillaries – The smallest vessels with thin walls that allow small molecules like oxygen and glucose to pass through them

Blood vessels arteries – Thick walled tube which carry blood from the heart to the body

Blood vessels veins – Thinner walled tubes which carry blood back to the heart.

The circulatory system Blood goes from the heart to the lungs (to pick up oxygen), it returns to the heart where it is then pumped around the rest of the body. It returns to the heart and the process starts again.
