Successes of the Project Math Advisory Letters Biology Core Intersegmental Business Articulation Council (IBAC) Integrated Chem. Course for nursing New CAN descriptors -- in new format

The CAN System California Articulation Numbering System SB 851 (1983) Purpose Promote transfer of CC students to 4-yr. Institutions Develop a common method of course identification Identify courses with comparable content

CAN Existing CAN Model New Model

Existing CAN Model Bilateral arrangement, i.e. if a campus could identify four California public four-year institutions that would accept their course for transfer it would be “CANned”. CAN descriptors were, by there very nature, quite short. Of the 100,000 CSU transferable courses listed on ASSIST, around 10% are CANned as major preparation courses.

New CAN Model Initiation of new CAN descriptors will originate from inter-segmental articulation efforts such as IMPAC and CSU POL New CAN descriptors have the following five elements

Five Required Elements Descriptor must be developed and maintained through a faculty-based consultation Articulation officers should be involved in the review. The consultation must be intersegmental, offering an opportunity to consult to representatives of all segments participating in CAN The opportunity to consult must be available statewide The descriptors must be adopted by the CAN Board.

Watch the CAN website for information as the implementation of the new CAN model develops:

ASSIST Computerized student-transfer information system that can be accessed over the World Wide Web Official repository of articulation for California’s colleges and universities Provides the most accurate and up-to-date information available about student transfer in California. (
