Parent/Student Syllabus 2014 First Grade Sunrise

1 st Grade Rules *I will be responsible and respectful. *I will do my personal best. *I will be ready to learn.

Behavior Management Each teacher will be implementing a color coded chart system. Your child could move up or down during the course of a day. We look to foster a caring learning environment in which we learn from mistakes and reward good choices!

Behavior Management I have a red, yellow, green, blue, and purple clip chart for behavior. Children start at green (ready to learn). They can move up to blue (great) and purple (terrific). They can also move down to yellow (friendly reminder) and red (teacher’s choice).

Rewards/Consequences Purple (Terrific): 3 tickets Blue (Great): 2 tickets Green (Ready to Learn): 1 ticket Yellow (Friendly Reminder): Friendly reminder paper to fill out. Red (Teacher’s Choice): Parent Contract filled out and sent home and teacher’s choice.

Marble Jar Children earn marbles for whole class good behavior. When marble jar is full, there is a whole class reward. We will vote for what the reward will be at a later date. Mystery Walker

Curriculum Reading – Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards (Study Island, Reading Eggs, 95 percent, Reading A-Z, PLATO, Galileo, RAZ kids, Trophies) Math – Common Core (Eureka, Plato, Excel, Galileo) Writing – Writing A-Z, Six Traits, d’nealian, Science/Social Studies- Science A-Z and embedded in ELA units. Interventions/Enrichment - switching (based on ability and instruction is tailored to students’ needs)

Eureka/Excel Math Eureka Fluency Application Concept Development Debrief Exit ticket Excel Spiral Curriculum Used as an intervention and enrichment program

Reading Expectations Read each night 20 minutes To prepare for DIBELS Assessment NWF – 47/8, 58/13 - midyear and end of year ORF - 23 words midyear ORF - 47 words, but really want 60 at the end of the year

Grading Production - is the grade assigned for the work produced (includes participation and correctness) Standards - is the grade assigned for meeting the standards (gather information from Galileo, DIBELS and overall class work) E- exceeding M- meeting A - approaching F - falling far below

Keep at Home Cell phones, ipods, CD players (electronics) Toys, nail polish, make-up

Dismissal Please pick your child up the designated first grade area which is in the grass area in front of the 100 building. Parent pick up will dismiss first Bus riders will be placed on the bus by teacher

Homework Opportunity for parental involvement Increases practice time and provides for independent practice Extension of the learning Enhances life skills such as organization and responsibility Each teacher will be handing out homework each week minutes nightly

Eureka Math Homework is sent home on Monday. Homework is due on Friday. Homework is work from previous week. Class work from previous week sent home with homework. Children answer in pencil. They correct in red. If answers are missing, children aren’t correcting their work with the rest of the class.

Parent Volunteers Application in office 3 hours per week maximum Orientation required

Take Home Folders Bring back to school everyday. 1 ticket each day for returned folder Behavior Log To Do/Completed=Home/School Communication Pages Agenda- 3 Things we did today Reading Log- 20 minutes per night
