 Muslim Extremist group  Founded by Osama Bin Laden, Abdullah Azzam, and other militant leaders  Between 16,000 and 24,000 members worldwide  Believe Christian-Jewish alliance is conspiring to destroy the religion of Islam  Anti-American  Believe killing non-combatants is sanctioned by religion  Ignore any aspect of the Quran that says to NOT kill non-combatants

 A.k.a Islamic State of Iraq and The Levant (ISIL)  originated as Jama’at al-Tawhid wal-Jihad and pledged allegiance to Al Qaeda but separated from them in 2014  Claimed itself as a caliphate (government of Islam)  Lead by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi  Participate in Illicit proceedings, kidnapping for ransom, donations, Material support from foreign fighters and fundraising through social media.

 Obama along with many U.S. officials claim Al Qaeda is decimated and hardly functioning  They have structure of command like a government  U.S. withdrawing troops from Afghanistan and North Africa  Civil War in Syria  Lawlessness in Sinai peninsula  Goal: expanding the organization and threaten the U.S.

 Growing by the day  Very public of their activities.  Published a video of their executions  Released a list of U.S. soldiers in U.S. to assassinated by any ISIS loyalists in the U.S  Want to destroy everything not Islamic  Christians  Jews  Homosexuals
