IEEE Baltimore Section Continuing Activities Member Engagement  Annual Robot Challenge  Senior Member Drives  Continuing Education Technical Courses (earn CEU’s)  Power Engineering Society ‘E-Week’ Dinner and Networking for HS Students, Teachers and Engineering Mentors  EMB Society/Chapter Technical and Professional Development Seminars  Gold-WIE Joint Social/Networking events Chapter Chairs Dinner (Volunteer Recognition) 6

Baltimore Section 2011 & 2012 New Member Engagement Initiatives in 2011  a young professional program for graduating student members, STEP (Student Transition and Elevation Partnership) Event  ‘IEEE Day’ (National Electronic Museum Tour)  Local IEEE resources to transitioning members, BRAC Aberdeen Proving Ground Welcome Reception and Networking Visibility & Awareness: IEEE Global History Network 2012 Milestone  Mainline Electrification of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, 1895 (Howard Street Tunnel Electrification)  B&O Railroad Museum (Dedication Ceremony, June 21 st ) IEEE MGA Metro Area Workshop – Nov 7

Sections face similar challenges Key challenge: Need to bridge the gap from a member to active engaging member –IEEE Fellows, Senior Members, Section Directors, Retired Members Leadership vacuum  A core group of longtime volunteers manages routine tasks; difficult for them to have enough time to undertake strategic activities too Lack of organized, standardized approaches to connecting new or relocating members to the local sections. Unlike academia, industry support for IEEE member participation is minimal.
