Reflections

Learning Goal  (right side) LG: Perform a combination of reflections on a single 2-D shape, with and without technology, and draw and describe the image  (left side) Kid Friendly: Reflect shapes left, right, up, and down  (left side) What I think I know:

Definition  Reflection: A reflection is a flip over a line  Reflections are everywhere... in mirrors, glass, in water.... Where else might you see reflections?

Reflecting over the x axis Every point is the same distance from the central line !... and... The reflection has the same size as the original image

Central Line The central line is called the Mirror Line...

Mirror Lines Mirror Lines can be in any direction. Imagine turning the photo at the top in different directions the reflected image is always the same size, it just faces the other way :

How to…

Remember to..

Which of the following flags will look the exact same when reflected over the line?

And if all else fails…  Fold the Paper  Just fold your sheet of paper along the mirror line and then hold it up to the light !

Practice  Using graph paper create a coordinate grid  Make a mirror line diagonally on the x axis. Make this line darker.  Place a shape on one side of the mirror line. Label the shape with A, B, C, D  Reflect your shape in the line of reflection. Label it with A1, B1, C1, D1  Add another shape if this went smoothly.See what kind of neat design you can make!
