Academic Standards Review Committee Fall 2014 Team members: Dillon Carr, Daniel Gendler, Pamela Laureto, Harold Lee, Thomas Street, Fred Zomer

Background Academic Standards document adopted by AGC in 2009 Companion Document to Faculty Code of Ethics Aligned to Faculty Evaluation Process and Ideology (circa 2009) Designated for Review in Current Charge from AGC Review the existing standards Gather feedback from departments or groups college wide Recommend any necessary changes

Committee Actions to Date Conducted a review of the existing standards Team members solicited feedback from their respective work areas Compiled recommendations First presentation to AGC Discussed feedback and provide response to AGC during second presentation

Committee Report Discussion has focused on two areas: 1.The function of the document 2.Revisions to language choice

What is the function of the document? Issue: Are the academic standards a set of guidelines or a policy and how does this document relate to the Code of Ethics and current Faculty Evaluation system?

What is the function of the document? The committee’s recommendation is that the document represents a set of guidelines that is aligned with the ideology governing both the Code of Ethics and Faculty Evaluation system. Our recommendation is based on the original intent of the document to serve as a set of guidelines for faculty and a companion document to the Faculty Code of Ethics (see: AGC Decision Form, 2009).

Revisions to the document language Issue: What language changes are necessary to complete the review of the academic standards?

Revisions to the document language Proposed revisions are detailed in the word document distributed to AGC for this meeting. Most changes to the wording of the guidelines were presented in detail during our 1 st visit to AGC. New language updating the implications for action section were added and are intended to clarify the role of the document along with updating that section.

Implications for Action: This document provides a set of guidelines for faculty and should be used in new faculty orientation, professional development, CARP course creation and revision in Curriculog, and should serve as a companion document to the Faculty Code of Ethics. This document conforms to current ( ) faculty evaluation process and ideology.

Where are we now? This is our 2 nd presentation to update AGC on the committee’s work. This is our final visit before we return for a vote on October 14 th. Please forward any feedback to Dillon Carr by September 19 th.
