2 Started January, 2006 Three year initiative with ongoing support Partnership between Dept of Ed, State Board, and Winston-Salem Systemic Services 19 middle school principals currently enrolled PRINCIPAL ACADEMY of LEADERSHIP

3 Project Components Leadership and Communication Surveys of Enacted Curriculum Instructional Reviews

4 Leadership and Communication Seminars on assigned readings involving student work, leadership, sustainability, communication and conflict resolution Presentations on data analysis, creating visions and strategic planning Monthly coaching calls School visits Professional learning communities

5 In 2006, administered 256 ELA surveys and 183 math surveys In 2007, administered 157 ELA surveys, 120 math surveys and 81 science surveys All principals trained on using the website, creating displays and leading conversations with faculty and staff Surveys of Enacted Curriculum

14 Observed 828 classrooms in 2006 and 525 classrooms in 2007 Five key areas:  What is the objective?  What is the teacher doing?  What are the students doing?  Is learning being assessed?  What is the overall quality of the lesson? Instructional Reviews
