Social Media’s Effect on Teens Alison Torres & Madeline Cooney

Define the Problem  With the increase of technology in the last decade, social media has taken off and become extremely popular.  Social media: forms of electronic communication (as Web sites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos).

 Among the social media user, teens are the largest group.  22% of teens log onto their favorite social media sites more than 10 times a day.

Consequences  anxiety, peer pressure, bullying, low self- esteem, depression and even suicide.  Teens often feel like they can’t escape these feelings.  UegW5cPE UegW5cPE

Causes  The biggest cause of problems from social media is an overall lack of education.

Solutions  Education!  Teens should be educated in their technology classes and teachers should be required to take classes on social media.  Parents should be talking with their teens about how to properly use social media.
