Explain how the opening four chapters set up the fall and destruction of civilisation on the island… First: To say that civilisation will fall, you must have to prove/show that the boys try to remain or retain a sense of civilisation. Second: Once you have show this, you then need to show how the fall and destruction of this civilisation is set in train. Intro: The opening four chapters show how the boys try to remain civil, but fail to remain so as the absence of parents, authority becomes apparent and an obsession for power develops. Para 1: Show how the boys try to remain civil. Para 2: Show how the absence of parents and authority is being exploited by certain boys (Jack and Roger).
