CANAH MCNEAL Title: Revolution Author: Jennifer Connelly Publisher: Delacorte Press Year of Publication: 2010

STORY INTRODUCTION  The majority of the story takes place in modern day Paris, France. The main character, Andi, is forced to go to France by her father in order for her to finish her project. However, while lurking around, Andi stumbles upon the old diary of a French girl named Alex who suffered through the French Revolution. Andi bounds and connects with Alex through the diary while she struggles with a revolution of her own. With her mother in a health center, her brother dead for over two years, and her father coming into her life suddenly, Andi can barely fight her own battles. Much less read about a French one

 Andi can be described as a “rebel with an Einstein mind”  She doesn’t like most kids at her school and resents anything they do or talk about  The only thing that Andi has in common with her classmates is the fact that she does drugs.  Since her brother died, Andi has constantly blamed herself for his death  Her mind never let her forgive or forget  Andi’s mind constantly told her that everything wrong in her life was her fault and just let her wallow in her misery PROTAGONIST/ANTAGONIST Andi (Protagonist) Andi’s Mind (Antagonist)

 Andi is always angry but her anger is numbed out because of her drugs  In her mind, Andi should hate herself and those around her because she is afraid of losing someone else PROTAGONIST/ANTAGONIST (CONTINUED) Andi Andi’s Mind

MAIN CONFLICT IDENTIFICATION Problem(s): Andi can’t find closure for her brother’s death. She is angry at everyone around her and blames herself for everything that happened. She takes Qwellify to block out her emotions and feelings. She is numb to what others want from her and blocks out whatever they say and/or do.

MAIN CONFLICT IDENTIFICATION (CONTINUED)  Possible Solution(s): Andi pushes out all good feelings about anything except when she plays guitar. Music is her only outlet. Therefore, she could tell her story in her songs and let it out. Music is probably the only solution that anyone could find for Andi. She doesn’t like to talk about what goes through her head because she doesn’t want to relive her pain. Under the circumstances, music is the best choice for Andi.

 Andi’s dad wanted her to go to Paris with him to finish her senior thesis.  She resents him because he walked out on the family  Virgil understands Andi’s music and hw she relates to it  Andi has feelings for Virgil but thinks that if she tells him about her past that he will be like everyone else and think she’s crazy MINOR CHARACTERS Andi’s Dad Virgil

MINOR CHARACTERS (CONTINUED) Andi’s Dad Virgil

MINOR CHARACTERS (CONTINUED)  Truman  When Truman, Andi’s little brother, died, Andi blamed herself for his death  Andi has dreams and hallucinations about Truman consistently

CRITIC REVIEW FROM /BOOK/SHOW/ REVOLUTION /BOOK/SHOW/ REVOLUTION Critic 1: I hated Andi from beginning to end. I couldn’t believe her high school people either. It was completely exaggerated and over the top. I kept reading because of the French Revolution. The author did her research and I enjoyed the facts.

CRITIC REVIEWS FROM OM/BOOK/SHOW/ REVOLUTION OM/BOOK/SHOW/ REVOLUTION Critic 2: This book is captivating and filled with emotion. Andi is a unique and intelligent girl who become overwhelmed with sorrow and grief. This novel is powerful and the main character pain practically jumps off the pages.

MY TAKE ON “REVOLUTION” I was blown away by the emotional connection I felt towards Andi. Jennifer Donnelly did a great job of grabbing my attention not just with the words but with what was behind them: the raw core of Andi’s feelings. I would definitely recommend this book
