Years 2 and 3: Our daily routine is… 8:45 – Classroom door opens. Children put lunch boxes on the trolley and book bags/fruit in trays (free school meals for KS1). Morning tasks for children. 8:50 Register 9:00 – Door closes. 10:45 – Outdoor play (all children eat their fruit at break). 12:30 – 1:30 Lunchtime. 3:00 – 3:15 DEAR 3:15 – Home time – Please meet your child outside the classroom door. Somebody different picking up.

These are the things that children need to bring to school every day. During the day children in Years 2 and 3 have a fruit break. We are able to provide the children in Year 2 with one piece of fresh fruit/vegetable. If you would like to provide fruit, if they do not like what is provided, please only send your child with one piece. It is important that children drink plenty of water during the day - clear plastic water bottle with your child’s name on it. Book Bags with Home Reading Record and reading book. PE Kit – Please continue to label all of your child’s PE items and ensure it is at school each week. Wellington boots. Reading Book Bands

Reading Matters Reading in Y2 and Y3 moves beyond decoding words – don’t expect your child to race through levels! Book bands are all linked to NC levels.

These are just some of the fun things that we do across the lower school…

Our Creative Curriculum Some of the topics we will be looking at: Year 2 – 5-a-day! FIRE! Year 3 – From Flint to Iron. Class assemblies School trips Clubs

Behaviour: Rewards and Sanctions.

How you can help us It is important to hear your child read every day if at all possible. If your child gets word cards sent home, it would be helpful to go through them with your child as often as you can. Home learning – takeaway learning Please encourage your child to be as independent as possible when settling in in the morning. Communication – Letters / Parent Mail / Text / Website / Mrs Fox

How you can help us Year 1 & 2 Phonics Screening Checks Take place the week beginning Monday 13 th June. Year 2 SATs Take place in May. It is essential that your child is in school both during this period and the weeks leading up to it.

Please come and join us! If you have some spare time on your hands then let us know and we would welcome your help in our classroom. Things we might ask you to do… Reading with children Painting with children Going on school trips or walks Helping with cooking and craft activities
