7 th ELA Ladders Figurative Language, Vocabulary Skills, Narrative Writing, Argument/Persuasive, Using Sources & Using Evidence

Ladders EVERYWHERE! I know that you’re using these ladders in many different classes this year. Each teacher is going to be using them a little bit differently. In ELA, we are going to focus on one skill at a time. You will use knowledge, skills and evidence to prove that you are climbing to success.

Rungs on Our Ladders STEP 4—Real World!! Level E(7)—Excellent Level D(6)—Dynamite Level C(5)—Climbing Level B(4)-Breakthrough Level A(3)—Adequate

For each level on the ladder, there is a short quiz on Galileo. If you take it and PASS—that’s it, you’ve climbed. If you need some extra work, we will work together to get you ready to climb. Once you’ve climbed all the way up to Level E, that shows us you’re ready to put the skill into real world practice!!! For EACH level you pass, you must come and get my initials. You may NOT go on to the next level until you and I meet and confirm your climb.

Struggles Sometimes it’s as simple as “I forgot this stuff” Maybe you’re struggling with definitions Is taking the test on the computer too difficult? Would another test form help? Worksheets/activities can help you brush up on your skills.

Successes The goal of this program (in all classes) is to show you are “proficient” on standards. As you work your way “up,” keep congratulating yourself every step of the way. Each rung gets you a free time pass. Top of the ladder earns Mega-Bucks!

Step 4—Beyond the Classroom Choose from a “menu” Design your own project Goal is that now that you’ve climbed the ladder, you can use the skill in the real world. Publishing, presenting, interviewing, sharing, developing Payment in MEGA-BUCKS (minimum $25)

How the Ladders WORK here… You will use your assigned laptop during delayed start days and when you finish English work early. Your Rung Checklists will be kept in your green folders. If you need additional practice, you will meet with me. Once you’ve climbed all the rungs, we will work on forming your Step 4.
