Presentation transcript:

Maximizing Land Use / Poor housing conditions Need to elaborate on why this existed, that is, Overpopulation due to post war baby boom / immigration – led to lack of housing / overcrowding around city area Lack of proper facilities like piped water and electricity because of slums – unhygienic Lower income groups needed housing urgently Land cleared for development so need to resettle people Measures taken HDB was formed – flats built – solved overcrowding, slum Self-contained towns – to solve overcrowding near city area HDB flats – had own toilets, kitchen – solved the unhygienic situation. Land Requisition Act – cleared for housing projects and solved squatter problem

Social Cohesion Need to elaborate on why this was needed Different races concentrated in different areas, so there was little or no interaction and this was unhealthy for a multi-racial group Middle income group was growing and they did not qualify for HDB housing and private housing was too expensive. This might create dissatisfaction between income groups Lack of community spirit Measures Taken Community centres – to build interaction between races and sense of community spirit March 1989 regulation – to promote interaction between races and tolerance HUDC and new housing schemes (do your research and give the example) – to promote interaction between different income groups

Home Ownership Issue To give the people a sense of pride in the estate they live in and loyalty to the country Measures Taken Steps taken to ensure people own a house People will be motivated to work harder and want peace and stability so that their property is protected So there is economic, social and political stability
