Work Session Research Day – Media Center Go over directions/rubric/assignment

Work Session We will go to the media center to FINISH your research. You must have enough information to write a 4 paragraph informational essay. Remember, a requirement is a drawing and a caption that summarize your tradition. If you are done with your research you may take a piece of computer paper and draw your picture/caption today.

Work Session Students will work on planning their essay using a graphic organizer. Once they complete the graphic organizer, they will draft their essay. Their essay should include an introduction paragraph (hook, thesis statement, background information and/or supporting sentences about holiday and tradition), three body paragraphs (a topic sentence for each paragraph that introduces the information you will write about in that body paragraph, cited information from your research giving credit to the author/site, and an example to help the reader understand), and conclusion (Begin with a concluding transition, summarize the topics written about in the body paragraph, restate/reword thesis, and write a clincher/closing sentence). All paragraphs should be 6 to 8 sentences. Students may revise/edit with a partner.

Mini-Lesson: Writing a Conclusion Students will read the article titled “Football”. The conclusion paragraph has accidently been deleted…OOOPS! With your group write a good conclusion paragraph for the essay. Be ready to share your concluding paragraph. Teacher reminder: Remember to delete conclusion paragraph before you copy.
