Water Sustainability Sustainability - Is the ability of something to exist or be used at the same level for a long period of time without being damaged, harmed, or reduced for future use Only a tiny fraction of the world’s water is suitable for human use. A rising world population, along with pollution, is putting increasing pressure on this limited resource. The sustainability of the world’s water resources is an urgent global issue. Are we using water in a way that will make it available to future generations? Water Sustainability Video (YouTube)

Water Sustainability Brainstorm a list of things that we can do to treat water sustainably and conserve water. Check this out: Oxijet Shower NozzleOxijet Shower Nozzle Oxijet Shower Nozzle Experiment Wisely use the tap Avoid lengthy baths/showers Only flush when it’s necessary Be wise when using water for recreation Use all water purchased Water saving toilets Sensory taps/”pushy” taps Garden lawn wisely Plan ahead for water use Think wisely about water usage at water parks Loads for laundry? Air bubbling water Government controlled water limits

Why do we Need to Conserve Water? If water is constantly being cleaned and recycled through the earth’s water cycle, why do we need to conserve it? The answer is that people use up our planet’s fresh water faster than it can naturally be replenished. 1. When you use water wisely, you help the environment. A. You save water for fish and animals. B. You help preserve drinking water supplies. C. You ease the burden on wastewater treatment plants—the less water you send down the drain, the less work these plants have to do to make water clean again.

Why do we Need to Conserve Water? 2. When you use water wisely, you save energy. A. You save the energy that your water supplier uses to treat and move water to you B. You save the energy your family uses to heat your water. 3. When you use water wisely, you save money. A. Your family pays for the water you use. If you use less water, you’ll have more money left to spend on other things.
