Overnight Radiology Reads How to get them……

Overnight Radiology Reads TRIAGE OF STUDIES – –Daytime: Inpatient CT scans are fit in among scheduled outpatient scans. – –Nighttime: Inpatient Ct scans are worked in among ER scans. – –IF A STUDY NEEDS TO GET DONE: Call down to speak with tech first. If there is a question, speak with radiology resident (in area-specific reading room during the day or ER reading room at night) ACCESS TO READ – –There are 2 residents (A - junior level; B - senior level) and 1 attending in house at night. The A (junior) is the first to answer the phone. – –Scans done after 5PM will not be read by a radiologist until the next morning – –Worst time to call: Between 5PM and 12AM, often because of busy ER – –Best time to call: Between midnight and 5AM – –Acute, specific questions can typically be answered quickly. Multiple studies will often require a call back.

Overnight Radiology Reads SPECIFIC QUESTIONS – –Order comments on Wiz – –Sign out: Specific reason why the study was ordered needs to be signed out to cross-cover. – –Sick patient: It's okay if the team doesn't know what is going on if they are sick! – –If you are cross cover, you are responsible to call radiology to get read CRITICAL ALERTS – –Radiology has a protocol to call physician about any "critical" items – –HOWEVER, they don't know who is on, so this may go to the ER resident or a cross-covering intern overnight HELPFUL NUMBERS – –CT tech: – –Body CT reading room: – –Neuro MRI reading room: – –Ultrasound: 20853
