Persephone!! Goddess of Spring, Daughter of Demeter, Queen of the Underworld!! By Samantha Shriber, hour one!!

Demeter, Mother of Persephone!! Demeter is goddess of Agriculture. She is one of the six godly children of Cronus and Rhea, and along with Hades, Hera, Hestia, and Poseidon, was trapped in Cronus's stomach and freed by her younger brother Zeus. Demeter is said to be the second oldest of the three original goddesses, but even though of her somewhat high status, she was a wild child!! Its said that the father of Persephone is unknown, cause even though Demeter spook of Zeus as being the father of the spring goddess, its most likely that Persephone’s father is one of the many godlike men that had a romantic “moment” with the goddess during a harvest festival.

Creation of Persephone!! The goddess Demeter fell down to Earth, the land of humans was cold and covered with ice and snow. But as the goddess Persephone was born, Apollo, god of light, raced across the purple sky, his chariot that pulled the sun melting every cent of snow. The goddess of innocence opened her eyes, her gift of spring painting the moist grass with lovely flowers.

The capturing of Persephone The god Hades is lord of the Underworld, he had no need for company, he didn’t want a queen to love…well, until he laid his dark eyes upon the beautiful Persephone. The maiden goddess was skipping through the forest, right above Hades's boney castle in the land of the dead. Persephone collected flowers for her mother, giving Hades the idea to summon the most beautiful flower to Earth. This flower made Persephone’s eyes sparkle with desire, causing her to wander of from her group of giggling nymphs (ancient nature spirits) and to collect the precious plant on her own.

The Capturing of Persephone. Part 2 When Persephone brushed her finger tips lightly across the flower, the Earth began to shake, the ground beneath the maiden opened and released a grinning Hades on his glossy black chariot. He grabbed the goddess, ignoring her kicking and scratching, dragging her down to the underworld, the hole closing off every last bit of sunlight.

When Persephone’s disappearance became known, the poor Demeter fell into a deep depression, winter came and never left. The birds refused to sing and the children never played…youth, innocence, the magic of spring time…it all lost meaning. Zeus grew frustrated at the lack of season changing, he sent his son Hermes, Messenger of the Gods, to bring back Persephone. So Hermes left to the underworld to find a even sadder picture, a cold, skinny Persephone who laid on the ground, eyes flooded with tear drops and her lips sealed, trapped in the world where all hope of life had ended long ago, but at the sight of Hermes the goddess glowed with hope, ecstatic to leave a world where flowers never grew. But Hades had a plan to keep his future queen. He offered her pomegranate seeds, after all Persephone refused to eat during her entire stay in the underworld, willingly she gobbled the seeds up. When Persephone returned to her mother they danced and cried with joy, spring finally came. But sadly the pomegranate seeds that Persephone ate tied her to the underworld, but thankfully the gods declared that Persephone will go to the underworld and marry Hades, but when spring and summer came the goddess could return to the land where light and life shine.

Persephone is related to… Demeter and possibly Zeus. If father is Zeus is half sister to Athena, Artemis, Apollo, Ares, Eris, Hephaestus… Niece of Hera, Hestia, Poseidon, and Hades. Granddaughter Rhea and Cronus.
