Graphing Notes
Why Graph? Graphs are great because they communicate information visually Graphs help make complicated information easy to understand A graph helps get your point across quickly and visually
3 Things Needed on Every Graph: 1. Title 2. Labels on the X-axis and Y-axis 3. Key
Why is a title important? It tells you what the graph is about Use numbers that are easy: 2, 5, 10 Make sure each line/space is worth the same amount Choose an appropriate scale
3 Types of Graphs 1. Bar - shows information collected by counting.
3 Types of Graphs 2. Line – shows the relationship between two variables and how they change.
3 Types of Graphs 3. Pie - shows information collected by counting and divided by the total to get a percentage (% )
Types of Variables Independent Variable – the factor that as you change it affects another variable; found on the x-axis Dependent Variable – the factor that changes as the independent variable changes; found on the y-axis
