Case Unwanted Pregnancies Movie: If these walls could talk Dr. Peih-ying Lu

O Zygote – from fertilization until second cell division O Embryo-conceptus between time of fertilization to 9-10 weeks of gestation O Fetus- from 9-19 weeks of gestation to time of birth O Infant – time of birth to 1 year of age

Development Using developmental stages to divide up a pregnancies:  From LMP to 12 weeks the embryo develops all the major organs, becomes a fetus, and the placenta takes over control.  From 12 weeks to 27 weeks the fetus continues developing and reaches viability  From 27 weeks on the fetus finishes development and prepares for devlivery

O Gestation: a mathematical method where take the 40 week gestation and divide by three. Here the second trimester begins at 13 week 3 day; and the third begins at 26 week 6 day.

O Conception: A mathematical method where you take the 38 weeks of post-conception development, divide by three, and add two weeks. Here the second trimester begins at 14 week 5 day and third at 27 day.

O 21 weeks or less: 0 percent survival rate O 22 weeks: 0-10 percent survival rate O 23 weeks: percent survival rate O 24 weeks: percent survival rate O 25 weeks percent survival rate O 26 weeks: percent survival rate O 27 weeks: greater than 90 survival rate
