Class Procedures 7 th grade mathematics

What do I need each day?  Pencils  Notebook paper  Binder  Digits book…. YES! Bring your digits book EVERY day!!!

Binder  Your math binder will need 3 dividers  1. Warm-Ups  2. Notes  3. Tests/Quizzes

Entering Class  You may enter the classroom when all the students from the previous class have exited.  When you enter the room, you are to take out your binder and Digits book.  You will see a warm-up for you to begin on the board, generally 3 questions.

Warm-Ups  Each day you will complete a warm-up in the section of your binder labeled “Warm- Ups”  You will write the title, questions, and answer the questions  Occasionally instead of an actual warm- up, we will have competitions to list as many perfect squares as possible/ square roots, or learn about a famous mathematician’s life

Warm-Ups  Warm-ups will be collected monthly for a classwork grade  Each day late, 10points are taken off your overall grade  Each warm-up is worth 7 points  Title= 1 point  Question= 1 point (x3 for three questions)  Answer= 1 point (x3 for three answers)

Teams  You are a member of an important learning team.  Teams are assigned and will change monthly  Each team can earn points throughout the day for all doing their homework, working together, helping, answering correctly etc.

Teams  In your team box, you can find Team Point Sheets. Here is where you keep track of your team’s point earned daily.  You turn the sheet in at the end of class, so they can be tallied.  The end of the month, the team with the most points wins a prize.

Team Responsibilities  What are the numbers for?  When you are told to work with your team or given a project, you will be given roles to play that change depending on the project.

Turning Items In…  Items are turned in to the student center; there you will see a drawer with your class period. Turn in items into the drawer labeled your class period.

Student Center  You will find everything you need here…  “Turning in” tray  Scissors  Glue sticks  Markers  Tissues/ Hand Sanitizer  Team Points box  Stapler, hole punch, and tape

Procedures  Raise your hand if you have a question  Ask before sharpening your pencil  You DO NOT need to ask to get tissue  Your agenda is your hall pass. If you need to go to the restroom, the nurse, or the office, you will need to fill out the back of your agenda.  YOU fill out the date, time, and place  I sign

Expectations  L isten to instructions  E nter and exit prepared  A lways try your best  R espect yourself and others  N o excuses!

Repercussions  Students will be given a warning when misbehaving and silent lunch after that.  Students who earn silent lunch in a different class can earn silent lunch for the next day or no recess.  Referrals depend on specific cases but generally occur if repeated misbehavior or disrespect

Tests/Quizzes  When getting a grade lower than a 70%, parents must sign acknowledging they know what grade you got.  Test corrections and retakes:  We do complete test corrections.  If you would like to correct a test, no matter what grade you got previously, you can!  Write question, answer, and explanation on a separate sheet of paper and submit by due date with parent signature

Homework  Homework will be given two or three times a week. It will be offered online, but can be printed if students do not want to do it online.  You get two nights to complete your homework  Students who do not do their homework receive an automatic silent lunch.  5 occasions when homework is not turned in on time will result in a referral.

Calculators  If you want to buy your own calculator, a basic four function is all that’s needed. If it has square root, that is acceptable as well.  WE DO NOT USE CALCULATORS DURING CLASS TIME! (certain lessons I will allow it for practice, but don’t expect it often)  Calculators can be used on homework, tests, and quizzes though!

Any last questions???
