The Traveling Quilt Project

What is the Traveling Quilt Project? The quilt represents the connection classrooms across America make while learning about the famous Iditarod dog sled race in Alaska. Many schools are sharing lessons from their classrooms by adding to the traveling scrapbook and creating quilt squares to be used in next year’s quilt.

Now take a few minutes to complete the quilt scavenger hunt.

The Iditarod is a race that started in Alaska. The Iditarod is 1049 miles long and the teams consist of 18 teams of 12 dogs and one musher. The race first started in 1973 and the trail was use in the 1920’s by early settlers looking for gold in mines.

A race that’s held in Anchorage, Alaska and starts the first Saturday in March 1,049 miles long Each team must have 12 dogs and no more than 16 dogs A prize of 50,000 dollars Has 20 check points Can go on for more than 15 days!

Other Facts: The Junior Iditarod is a140 mile race for mushers ages 14 to 17. Rick Swenson is the only 5 time winner of the Iditarod. Libby Riddles is the first woman to win the Iditarod in The last person to cross the finish line receives the Red Lantern award.
