 They must be able to determine the amount of medication needed for animals depending upon size. That requires using math.

 A veterinarian uses math to weigh the animal: convert the weight to kilograms, or to see how much weight the animal lost or gained. Weight converted into kilograms shows how much medicine is needed for that animal.

 Figuring out dosage of a particular medicine is one of the main uses of math in the veterinary field.  EXAMPLE: administer 2 cc’s (cubic centimeters) per 5 pounds of body weight. A 40 pound dog= 40/5=8; 8x2=16 (The 2 in 8x2 is the 2 cc’s) (The 5 in the 40/5 is 5 pounds of body weight)

 A veterinarian must be able to convert measurements if necessary.  EXAMPLE: Administer 5 cc’s daily for each 10 pounds of body weight. A 30 pound dog would need 15 cc’s of medication each day.  If there are no cc’s, then 5 cc’s is equal to 1 teaspoon. 15 cc’s is equal to 1 tablespoon.  The vet can construct the owner to give the necessary amount of medication

 Their calculations are done correctly and accurately because an animals life is involved. Medicine overdose can harm the animal even more than it already is. Math is used to bill the animals owner. Vets must have an understanding in mathematics.
