How to Get Involved!

Things I wish I knew as a freshman… Go to class! Cramming is a bad idea Work hard NOW Get an internship Study Abroad! Choose a minor Join a club Volunteer!! Get an On-Campus Job Have fun!

How do I get involved on campus? The Situation: you have completed the first half of your first semester of your freshmen year, you are doing well academically but some people seem to be fitting in better then you are, socially. You have some spare time and are not sure what to do with your self. The solution: Get involved at URI! I have handed out a list of organizations and clubs here at URI. For the most part you can join any of these at any time so you don’t have to wait till next semester! Just go to to a meeting or two to see if you’re interested!

When getting involved and joining a club you will need to ask yourself a few basic questions. What is the time requirement? Are there mandatory events? Do the the organizations go with your values, goals, beliefs? What do I like to do for fun? Is there a club or organization that specifically relates to it?

More Questions Is there an executive board? Are any positions open and can freshmen apply? Is it a social club? Such as a Fraternity or Sorority? Is it an organization related to your major? Will joining this club/organization make my time at URI more enjoyable?

Remember… Joining an on campus organization or a club is your choice and your choice only. No one should feel pressure to join a club right away or to join one cause their friend wants them to. You can and should attend as many meetings from as many clubs as you can, to get an idea of where you think you belong. Clubs and organizations are supposed to be fun! They should not be the main source of your stress, they should mostly be stress relievers. You will meet new people! Helps keep your time managed!

Activity! Sharing the Flyer for the club/organization that you had researched!
