11 million people are estimated to have been killed during the Holocaust ( ) 6 million of those are estimated to have been Jews The other 5 million were other groups of people deemed “inferior” including: Gypsies, Homosexuals, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Physically and Mentally Disabled People, and anyone that resisted the Nazi’s or offered help to those persecuted.

An estimated 1.1 million murdered during the Holocaust were children.

WHAT DOES “HOLOCAUST” MEAN? The term “Holocaust” comes from the Greek word "holokauston" which means "sacrifice by fire" This planned Genocide was part of the German’s “Final Solution” to the “Jewish Problem” The goal was to create a pure, German, master race. Anyone that did not fit into this category would be eliminated.

STAGES OF GENOCIDE Classification: Them and Us Symbolization: Assigning Symbols to these groups Dehumanization: One group denies the humanity of another group Organization: Armies/Militias, State by State, etc Polarization/Isolation: One group is labeled as extreme and isolated from society Preparation: Victims are separated. Lists for extermination are made. Extermination: Mass killing Denial: Perpetrators cover up evidence
