Circulatory System
Functions of the Cardiovascular System To move blood around the body Blood carries oxygen, nutrients, hormones and white blood cells of the immune system to every tissue of the body Blood removes waste from the tissues and transports it to the lungs, liver and kidneys for removal from the body
The Circulatory System All the functions of the CV system ultimately rely on the function of the heart The heart pumps blood through a network of blood vessels to all the tissues of the body The Circulatory system is divided into 2 circuits Pulmonary circuit Systemic Circuit
The Pulmonary Circuit Carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs where it drops off CO2 and picks up oxygen
The Systemic Circuit Carries oxygenated blood from the heart to all of the tissues of the body (including the heart muscle it’s self) Returns blood that has released it’s O2 to the heart to be sent to the pulmonary circuit
