You will need make at least 5 changes within your chosen theme. The options are below (choose at from at least 3 different categories) 1)Layout: change the style of theme’s default header, footer, side bar, pages, posts or menus. 2)Positioning: change the theme’s default positioning of at least one element of your choice within your theme. 3)Style: change the background color, background image and graphics of your theme. 4)Typography: change the type-face of a text based element within your page (paragraph, h1-h6, image caption, etc). 5)Color: change the colour of your text based elements.

Remember: Your goal is to demonstrate the best use of the tools and methods we have learned so far. All images MUST be your own or copyright free. I’d like to see your own graphic design here (even if you are designing a site for your client, emphasize your personal style using the tools we learned in class). Start working on your site EARLY. It will take you longer then you expect. Yes, even longer then that.

If you will be self hosting You will need to purchase a unique URL You will need to set up a hosting plan You will need to use an FTP program to transfer files from your computer to your online site

How does a url work? is a url. URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator It identifies the location and method of accessing a resource on the internet. A URL can be thought of as the "address" of a web page. It is made up of several parts: Protocol, (http). It tells the web browser how to access the files- using hypertext transfer protocol. Domain name - the location of the website (in this case google.com). It can be replaced by an IP address. could be replaced with ( is a reserved IP address, only used for example). Domain Suffix- are a part of the domain name and define the type of site:.com means commercial,.org- means organization,.net- means network. (*domain suffix meaning will not always be exact). When a browser initiate a request for a site it opens an internet protocol connection– the server sends a response that displays as a html page. The request is terminated by the browser. Video-

Web hosting After you have your website’s file in place (html, css, php files), you will need an internet service provider to host your site so users can access it online.

FTP program Stands for file transfer protocol, will allow you to transfer large files from your computer to your web server. I like to use Filezilla, but here is a list of more management/ftp-software/ management/ftp-software/

If you are building your site using wp.org, I suggest to use Web Enabled a web platform that will host your wp.org site without using an ftp program (free for first 30 days).
