Terms of Reference

Discussions on Organization of Standards Lists  Created worksheet with basic descriptors and categories to list inventories Basic (description, type, numbers, source, availability) Simple taxonomy (Content, structure, messaging and function) Domains (e.g., clinical, administrative, financial, research, public health...)

Preliminary Report to Technical Committees Presented preliminary report to Technical Committees in Chicago on February 21-23, 2006 In joint session the Technical Committees recommended use of seven categories  Context/Information Model Standards  Information Interchange  Terminology/Content Definition  Privacy and Security  Identifier standards for entities (limited to individuals and providers  Functionality and Business Process  Miscellaneous/Others

Collecting Standards Lists  Began collecting Standards Inventory lists Inventory of Standards Inventories (multiple standards developers included ) Inventory of Standards (single standards developer list)  Collected additional standards within these categories Consolidated into master worksheet (example attached)

National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Healthcare Standards Landscape

National Alliance for Health Information Technology (NAHIT) Standards Directory

NIST – NAHIT Collaboration  Exploring collaborative effort to merge Alliance Standards Directory content into the NIST Landscape tool. Alliance to contribute entire collection on healthcare standards, SDOs, web links and other information. NIST to contribute Landscape web tool  Result: A comprehensive resource of healthcare standards information. Starting point for SDOs and others to extend and manage relevant healthcare standards information.

Committee’s Report to HITSP March 13, 2006  Provided update on Committee’s Activities to Date  Emphasized the need for additional guidance from the HITSP Board and Panel  Obtained HITSP response - “to ensure our Technical Committees have the data that they need, we will modify the Terms of Reference for the Inventory of Inventories Committee to modify their scope to produce just that work that is immediately needed to support our 2006 Technical Committee deliverables.”

Next Steps  Committee Lead, Audrey Dickerson, plans to obtain additional guidance from LeRoy Jones, new HITSP Program Manager  Committee may continue to collect and categorize Standards lists from all sources or restrict to inventories of standards from sources with lists from multiple sources, i.e. ANSI or CHI. Refine category definitions and listing of standards within seven categories  Continue to explore how the NIST Landscape can support Inventory of Standards Inventories
