Chinchilla’s 5-24-10

Introduction Do you know what animal has white and gray fur and likes to eat hay? You guessed it…the chinchilla! An if you want to know all about the chinchilla’s physical characteristics, habitat, and adaptations, read this report!

Physical Characteristics Do you know all about the chinchilla’s body? The first fact is that chinchilla’s have gray fur and large black eyes. Also a chinchilla’s life-span is ten years(10) in the wild and twenty years in captivity. Another interesting fact is that chinchilla’s are twenty-five cm.(10 in.) wide including their 15 cm.(6 in.) tail. Finally, they are covered with soft, dense fur, gray on back and whitish on the underside. If you ever go to the pet store and see a soft fuzzy creature, you will know it is a chinchilla!

Habitat The habitat of the chinchilla is very unique. I bet you can’t even guess! They live in the Andes mountains! That’s the only place they ever live! But not just anywhere! They live in specific places like dry, rocky places. They also live in holes & burrows, but it has to be above sea level! If you learned a lot about the chinchilla’s habitat, just wait until you read about there adaptations.

Adaptations Do you know what some of the unique adaptations of the chinchilla are? One great adaptation is their short front legs and fore paws. They help to hold the chinchilla’s food. Also, they help them move quickly by hopping or jumping, because that is how they move. Another fascinating adaptation is their long ears that are nearly hairless. They help so they can hear predators. And the last but not least, I bet you’ll want to hear about their night vision. It helps them see while it’s night because they are nocturnal. I hope that now you know a lot the chinchilla’s adaptations.

Conclusion Isn’t the chinchilla an interesting animal? I hope you have learned many interesting facts about the chinchilla’s physical characteristics, habitat, and adaptations. If you want to learn more, I hope you will research the chinchilla like I did!
