Collaborative Discussion: What Do I Do, What Do You Do?

 How has the iPad changed education?

 #1: Changes learning for students with multiple disabilities  More information storage on a single device  Helps reinforce visual, auditory, tactile learning  Aids students in learning to complete classroom assignments using standard technology

 What other advantages or challenges have you encountered with student use of iPads?

 What have you found to be successful in preparing students to learn using the iPad?  What have you found that helps students learn skills?  What have you found that is especially helpful for teaching concepts and skills to students with multiple disabilities?

 iPads do not replace traditional teaching methods, but can enhance them  With some students, the iPad can be the motivating factor that stimulates learning  The iPad is a device that most of our students, especially those with multiple disabilities, identify quickly with  Use the iPad to build and build on student strengths

 Use the iPad to put students in control of their own learning  Students can become their own teachers and active agents for their own progress  Choose apps that promote this process and give your students academic independence  Be thinking about apps you use so that you can share them!

 Slide Shows

 Students create their own slide shows, first with guidance from you and then independently  When students hear information from a teacher, they are passively learning  When students hear information from themselves, they will not forget it easily

 Scavenger Hunts  Compliments/praise  Student presentation of work  Audio descriptions of work  Audio instructions for learning or applying skills

 What have you found to be successful in preparing students to learn using the iPad?  What have you found that helps students learn skills?  What have you found that is especially helpful for teaching concepts and skills to students with multiple disabilities?
