Rocky Mountain National Park By:Jeff Preussner

Location Rocky Mountain National Park is located in North Central Colorado. The Rocky Mountains are located in between the cities of Fort Collins and Boulder, Colorado.

Topography The Rocky Mountain National Park is located on the crest of the Front Range of the Colorado Rockies. Forty-two of the mountain tops in this range exceed 12,000 feet in elevation The Front Range covers more than 200 miles from southeastern Wyoming into central Colorado.

Founding and History When Congress passed the Rocky Mountain National Park Act on January 26,1915, the legislators focused on the Rocky's scenic and natural wonders. Still, what became the park held many cultural treasures including ancient trails, game drives, cattle ranches, and lodges.

Plants and Animals Some animals that can be found in the park are: Elk Deer Moose Big Horn sheep Black bears Coyotes Eagles Hawks Lots of smaller animals. Some of the plants at the park include: Ponderosa Pine Juniper Douglas-fir Blue Spruce Lodgepole Pine Along with many different species of wild flowers.

Currently………. The park needed to close down some of there snowmobile trails to help ensure a good and safe habitat for the local wildlife including the big horned sheep. The park kept the primary routes open to make travel easier between Grand Lake and Arapaho National Forest. By Jeff Preussner
