Good morning 4/5G. I am Scientist Simran Singh, today I will be talking about a Hadrosaurid or duck-billed dinosaur called a Parasaurolophus. It is one of the dinosaurs discovered by William Parks in 1922.

A Parasaurolophus was a unique, long crested and duck billed dinosaur. It was one of the dinosaurs discovered by William Parks. It belongs to the Lambeosaurinae family and belongs to the Walkeri species.

We can not accurately tell the appearance of a Parasaurolophus however we know it has a long crest on it’s head and the head was like a duck’s head. It had a long pointed tail. It was 40 ft long, 9 ft tall at the hips and weighed about 2 tonnes or 2000 kg, it was one of the biggest plant eaters in the Cretaceous period. Its crest was 1.8m long!!!!!!

The Parasaurolophus was a herbivore or a plant eater. This means it had flat teeth only for chewing grass, leaves twigs and many more things we don’t know. Predators It’s predator was commonly a Tyrannosaurus- Rex. Also we can tell that its other predators were Theropods. Theropods are meat eaters or carnivores that walked on 2 legs.

The Parasaurolophus lived in the late cretaceous period. This period had new plants and insects. It was found in western North America, Alberta, Canada, New Mexico and Utah which is located in USA.

The Parasaurolophus could walk on either 2 or 4 legs. It may have rattled its crest to protect itself. The sound it made is unknown but us scientists are clever enough to make up a sound for them.

They had a crest with a mysterious meaning why it was there. Many scientists believe that it had it for protection from predators by clattering it making a loud sound. Other reasons For communication. Identifying each other whether they are part of the family to protect the child.

Pterosaurs are not Dinosaurs. The biggest carnivore is T-Rex. Birds are flying dinosaurs. More than 50% were carnivores. Styracasaurus is the most popular Dinosaur in the Ceratopsian family for horns.
