Milton Glaser “The godfather of graphic design”

His Philosophy

He calls himself a “ DESIGNER-CITIZEN ” Philosophy “ ART IS WORK. ” He does all his work by hand-drawing everything. Minimal use of computers. “ JUST ENOUGH IS MORE. ” Rejected Modernist minimalism “less is more”, which was the popular “look” for graphic design by mid 20th century Instead, refashioned it to “just enough is more”. He calls himself a “ DESIGNER-CITIZEN ” using design to inform people to work towards a better future. He believes all designers has a social responsibility to the world to be truthful and to inform the public.

We Are All African (Sep 2005) Purpose: To call attention to “one of the great humanitarian crises of our time.” To evoke empathy - “If you can convince somebody that “they’re like me,” then you can convince someone to buy in to something.”
