Computer Applications I I dentify alternative input devices and techniques.

 Digital cameras provide photographic quality pictures for many applications.  Digital cameras also provide the option of adding different backgrounds or making the picture look different. Digital Cameras

Digital Camcorders  Digital Camcorders provide video files directly to the computer for many applications.  Videos can be transferred directly to a computer without having to convert formats.  Images are high quality.

Webcams  A webcam is a camera that sends video through the Internet or web cell phone.  Webcams can also be used to record video directly into a computer system or to take snapshot pictures.

Tablet PC  A type of notebook computer that has an LCD screen on which the user can write using a special-purpose pen or stylus.  The handwriting is digitized and can be converted to standard text through handwriting recognition, or it can remain as handwritten text – which is great for filling out forms.  Convertible Tablet PCs also typically have a keyboard for input.

Interactive Whiteboard Whiteboards are connected to a computer and use specialized software. The user writes or taps on the whiteboard in much the same way a tablet PC is used.

Web TV  Web TVs cost approximately $  The Keyboard costs approximately $  Many hotels use Web TV to provide Internet access for their guests.

Biometric Devices  Thumb prints, retina scan, finger prints, and voice prints are examples of biometric device uses.  These devices are becoming very common with personal computer use for password authentications.

 Fits in your pocket  Electronic PCs that can access the Internet and allows you to do work with your calendar, , and other applications.  Easily transfers data back to desktop computers through syncing. Pocket PC or PDA

Web Cell Phone A cellular telephone that also allows users to access the Internet via wireless communication..

Magnetic Scanner A device that scans magnetic strips on credit cards and other types of cards to input the data from the strips into a computer.

Barcode Scanners and Wands Input devices that read bar codes that allow you to track both assets and inventory, check items in, manage item locations, maintain physical inventory, and control fixed assets.

Global Positioning System  The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a worldwide radio-navigation system formed from a constellation of 24 satellites and their ground stations.  GPS uses these "man-made stars" as reference points to calculate positions accurate to a matter of meters. In fact, with advanced forms of GPS you can make measurements to better than a centimeter!

USB Flash Drive  The USB Flash Drive is an exciting advancement in the personal data storage market.  Because of its tiny size, large capacities, and use of the USB standard, the USB Drive revolutionizes the way people deal with large amounts of information.

Miniature Storage Devices Using flash memory technology, there are a variety of miniature storage devices and readers that are used for storing and transferring data among various computers and electronic devices.

Tablet Input Device Tablets give you the control you need to quickly and easily edit digital photos, draw, paint, create artwork, or sign your name. They work great with any software your mouse uses. You can easily write directly in Microsoft Office XP With a tablet.

Digital Memo A digital memo is a stand-alone device with storage capability that digitally captures and stores everything you write or draw with ink on ordinary paper. Then you can easily view, edit, organize and share your handwritten notes in Windows.

Digital Pen A digital pen digitally captures and stores everything you write or draw and inputs it into the computer.

Virtual Keyboards A projection (virtual) keyboard is a full-size virtual keyboard projected and touched on any surface. The keyboard watches your fingers move and translates that action into keystrokes in the device.

Microphone Headsets  Allows people to hear game sounds and command notifications.  Designed for comfort through long game sessions.  Input device for speech recognition.  Wireless microphones are beginning to be popular because they provide freedom of movement and great audio clarity.
