Business and Economics A-Level

How will I be assessed? O This is a course that is assessed purely through exams. O There will internal exams to ensure that students are making progress and to monitor performance.

What will I be studying? O You will work your way through 4 units of work over 2 years. You will have 5 lessons per week as well as your independent study. O There are four core units: O Unit 1: Developing New Business Ideas O Unit 2b: Business Economics O Unit 3: International Business O Unit 4b: The Wider Economic Environment & Business

Unit 1: Developing Business Ideas O This unit covers the characteristics students would need to develop to be successful in business and how new or existing businesses generate their product or service ideas and test them through market research. Students should also consider the competition in the market; the economic climate; how the business might be financed and how much revenue the idea might generate. O Assessment: O Examination of 1 hour 15 minutes in two sections. O Section A: supported multiple-choice questions. O Section B: questions based on data.

Unit 2b: Business Environment O This unit considers the market that the business may be operating in; how competition in the market and macroeconomic change is likely to affect it and how businesses can seek to minimise uncertainty through their actions. O Assessment: O Examination of 1 hour 15 minutes in two sections. O Section A: supported multiple-choice questions. O Section B: questions based on data.

Unit 3: International Business O The aim of this unit is to introduce the student to the world of international business and issues which a company trading internationally would have to consider. O Assessment: O Examination of 1 hour 30 minutes in two sections. O Section A: questions based on data. O Section B: case study and questions.

Unit 4b: The Wider Economic Environment & Business O In this unit, students consider why certain markets fail; how government decision making affects the economy and markets in which companies operate, and the income and welfare of private individuals. The unit should enable students to assess why government economic policy can succeed or fail and why regulation of some markets is necessary. O Assessment: O Examination of 1 hour 30 minutes in two sections. O Section A: questions based on data. O Section B: decision-making report and questions.

Is this course for me? O This course best suits students who perform well in exams. O You MUST have at least a B grade at GCSE in English and Maths to register on to this course. O You must be dedicated! There is a lot of content to get through and so you need to ensure that your notes are organised and up-to-date.

Extra-Curricular O There is the opportunity to participate in ‘Young Enterprise’ O Cranfield Business Arts Challenge. This year, our team were the Milton Keynes Champions and came 2 nd in the Regional Finals beating 32 teams. O Revision sessions in the run up to the exams.
