W HAT IS FAMILY L ITERACY ? Family literacy is a collaboration with parents and families to support the learning and development of reading and writing.

W HAT IS FAMILY L ITERACY ? According to the Family Literacy Commission, “Family literacy encompasses the ways parents, children, and extended family members use literacy at home and in their community (Morrow, 1995).

W HAT ARE THE GOALS ? Engagement in family literacy has many potentially impactful goals for children involved. Among these goals are: To provide a role model for good reading habits and strategies To strengthen relationships To teach the values of literacy To enhance reading skills in children To build a collaborative bond between the family and school
