Software developing is a branch of computer engineering that deals with designing computer applications that allow people to do certain things on a computer. Another job of a software developer is to discover underlying bugs and problems in certain software systems and fix them in order to assure the application is working smoothly.

Salary and Requirements According to the Job Outlook Handbook, the median yearly salary of a software developer is $93,350. To become a software developer, the entry level requirement is a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering and strong computer programming skills.

Work environment and Job outlook Software engineers typically work in computer system design firms or software publishing firms. The availability of software developing jobs are expected to increase 22% from 2012 to 2022, due to the increase in the demand for computer software.
