 Introduction  DHS Definition  AEHRC structure  DHS projects in AEHRC  DHS barriers  Conclusion 18/01/20152

 Health area is the second largest area of government expenditure and the largest employer in Australia  Upcoming issues  Rise in the population of aged people  Rise in the number of chronic disease  All these issues contribute to predict that the national health cost will increase exponentially in future (by 2043 half of tax revenue) 18/01/20153

 Digital technologies are powerful to address this challenge meeting the demand while improving the service quality and accessibility  Most of the required technologies are available or will be available soon.  Digital Health System (DHS) is a comprehensive name for such technologies which can be used. 18/01/20154

 A system which uses technologies to enhance access to the health care.  The main aim of DHS is to improve public health by:  Moving hospital services outside of it  Making in-home patient monitoring  Using data for better patient health care 18/01/20155

 Reducing the number of hospital admission  Improving the quality of services  Reducing the health cost  Ongoing patient monitoring  Emergency Preparation 18/01/20156

 CSIRO is working on this solution for several years.  The Australian E-health Research Centre (AEHRC) is the main branch which is working in this solution. 18/01/20157

 Hospitals admission prediction  New:  Through CSIRO patient admission prediction tool  Hospitals in NSW and South Australia are already publishing real time queue data  This data will be used by public, GPs and ambulances to go where queue is shorter (rather than going to closet) 18/01/20158

 Hospitals admission prediction  Next:  Using digital hospital data to plan for future demand 18/01/20159

 Tracking technology in hospital  New:  wireless tag is used to track key equipment's to help staff to find when they need  Some hospital has automated check-in 18/01/201510

 Tracking technology in hospital Next:  Wireless tag will be used for continuous care and increased safety level of patient  Wireless tag enables to share critical pre-admission information (patient history) 18/01/201511

 Tracking technology in hospital Next:  Wireless tag can be used by clinician to identify the current location of patient (notification system if not in range)  Automated routine manual actions 18/01/201512

 Telepresence treatment and training 18/01/201513

 Telepresence treatment and training Federal government Medicare tele health offers financial incentives to support a range of health professionals conducting video consultation 18/01/201514

 Telepresence treatment and training  NEW:  CSIRO remote-1 project in trial phase include telemedicine dashboard that record eye examination allowing specialists review and analyse entire session remotely. 18/01/201515

 Telepresence treatment and training  NEXT:  Video streaming consultation will become the norm for regional and remote consultation.  Digitally-enabled remote health clinics provide comprehensive diagnostics and treatment for remote communities as well as large cities.  Telepresence robots can be used for training and support. 18/01/201516

 Tele-health  New:  AEHRC is trialling guided self monitoring of chronic disease where patient take the measurement  The measurements will be reported to the GPs  This system can reduce emergency admission (between 20 to 6o percent) 18/01/201517

 Tele-health  NEXT:  More affordable measurement devices  Predictive algorithms which monitor reported data  Providing managed alerts for abnormal reading  Providing decision support systems for Clinical staff to check the data and respond to the alerts with suggestions for self-care 18/01/201518

 Goal:  develop infrastructure to help older Australian to live independently in home.  A sensor based platform which can be used to recognise daily activities which can be used o provide accurate and customisable health monitoring.  The system is implemented in a pilot trial in regional NSW. 18/01/201519

18/01/201520

18/01/201521

 Mobility  Transfer  Hygiene  Dressing  Meal  The combination of these can show how well a person is doing compared to the normal well day. 18/01/201522

 Geographic  Financial  Societal  Shortage of provider 18/01/201523

 In this presentation, we introduce the concept of DHS for future health system.  DHS is the promising approach to reduce the cost in health area.  DHS needs a comprehensive infrastructure to be applied for future health system.  DHS can be considered under Smart home paradigm for future. 18/01/201524
