Libya-Revolutionary map Located in Northern Africa against the Mediterranean sea

Demographics-Education  Free education for citizens  1.7 million students  Main Universities  Al Fateh University (Tripoli)  Garyounis University (Benghazi)  Misrata University (Misrata)  Omar Al-Mukhtar University (Bayda)

Demographics-Religion  Islam- 96.7%  Christianity- 2%  Other- 1.3%

Leaders  Muammar Gaddafi- Took over Libya and became dictator. Held office from March Auguast Killed  Mustafa Abdul Jalil- Former Justice Minister of Gaddafi. Became a leader of Libyan National Transitional Council and Gaddafi put a bounty on his head.

Similarities with American Revolution  Both fighting for independence from a tyrant  Both gained independence and created (or creating) a new government (US- Constitution, Libya-Sharia Law)  Many people from England went to US side and same with Libya (ex. Mustafa Abdul Jalil who betrayed Gaddafi)

Differences with American Revolution  Libyan revolution is more of a civil war and mostly internal conflict  Libya rebels killed the tyrant while US did not and just declared independence  The Libyan rebels seek to overturn the government and authority and complete change it, where's the colonists, at first, simply wanted to gain respect and representation in Britain

My opinion  I think that Libya did a great job taking down the corrupt government but compared to there future, it was one of the easiest job. Now they must restart there whole government from scratch which is the hardest part of all. I believe that they will be able create a stable government but it will be hard. Even the US had problems at first. For example, The Articles of Confederation was a fail. I believe that Libya will be able to create a stable government moving them out of the “third world” state.
