Traffic Management Plan for CWG  Dedicated Commonwealth Games lane.  Routes:-  Airport to Games Village.  Games Village to Competition Venues.  Games Family Hotels to Competition Venues (via Central Spine).  Park & Ride and Park & Walk schemes.  Route and Traffic diversion for road events.  Drop off & Pick-up points for spectators.  Pedestrian corridors to venues.

Provision of CWG Lanes  Delhi Traffic Police to provide dedicated lanes on all identified routes.  Dedicated lanes will be provided from the Airport to the Games Village and Games family hotels.  Dedicated lanes will also be provided from Games Village to competition venues.  As Games Family Hotels are located on or near the central spine, the Games Hotels will also be connected to competition venues via dedicated lanes as much as possible.

Management of CWG Lanes  CWG lanes will have a distinct identity by marking the roads with a distinct colour and Games Logo.  The lanes will generally be on extreme right except on certain stretches.  Intersection management – The games traffic will be facilitated by manual regulation of traffic at important intersections.  Duration – The lanes will be operational throughout the Games period.  Time of Operation will be notified on daily basis depending on the schedule of events.

MODALITIES OF GAMES LANE  It has been decided that at most of the roads Games lane will be along the Central Verge (both sides) exept at a few places.  Arrows will be painted every 200 meters.  Base of the lane will be dark blue. The logos of CWG will be in white and there will be yellow line on both sides.  Whereever there is a lane change, it will be marked as lane changing zone, left to right or right to left.  Lane changing zones will have signages at four different stages.

Due to a large number of vehicles plying in the city, we are taking various measures to reduce the base load of traffic in the city:-  The Opening Ceremony day i.e. 3rd October, 2010 is a Sunday. Declaration of Closing Ceremony day i.e. 14th October, 2010 as holiday in Govt. Offices, Banks, PSUs, etc. has already been made by the Central and State Governments.  Emphasis on Metro as primary mode of transportation.  Additional parking at / near Metro Stations.  Availability of limited parking around the games venue for spectators.  Use of various F.M. / TV channels for disseminating traffic related and other informations during Commonwealth Games  Mass Awareness Campaign to elicit public co-operation. OTHER MEASURES FOR TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT

Certain guidelines for general public in order to have better Traffic management have been prepared. These are:  General public should observe self discipline while on the roads.  All road users are expected to maintain the sanctity of dedicated lane, which is exclusive for games related traffic. They should avoid getting into the dedicated lane and if inadvertently they enter the lane, they should immediately come out of it. The notification to invoke major penalty of rupees 2000/impounding of vehicle for violators entering in the games lane, is likely to be published very soon.  The public is advised to avoid as far as possible CWG Lanes in general and Safdurjung Road, Kamal Attaturk Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Sardar Patel Marg, Siri Fort Road, CH. Harsukh Marg, Purana Quila Road and Mother Teressa Crescent Road in particular as these roads are having two lanes in one carriage way and one lane of it is already reserved for game related traffic.  To avoid unnecessary journeys during the games period.

 To give way to emergency vehicles i.e Police, Fire, Ambulance etc. A drive will be launched against vehicles not following this practice.  Ban on Marriage Processions on roads to be strictly enforced.  Any traffic related query/problem can be communicated to Traffic Helpline via phone no /1095. One may join our SMS alert service by typing “join DTP” and sending it to Delhi Traffic Police Ph. No to get update on traffic problems. Further the telephones of Traffic Control Room No / and Police Control Room No. 100 would also serve the purpose.  Regular updates will be available on Facebook and Twitter.
