Presentation transcript:

As part of the FIRST Education Initiative, an external analysis and update of educational standards addressed by all levels of FIRST programming was conducted. This work provides an update and extension of the initial standards analysis completed in 2012 by Loehr Educational Consultants. Once again in partnership with Loehr Educational Consultants and educators from the FIRST community, FIRST programs have been aligned to three sets of educational standards-Common Core State Standards, Next Generation Science Standards and 21 st Century Learning Skills. In an effort to increase the usefulness of the standards alignments, they have been arranged by program and grade level. An exemplar describing how FIRST programs meet each standard has been provided for each indicator/skill in the Common Core State Standards and 21 st Century Skills and for each Performance Expectation in the Next Generation Science Standards. An examination of the educational standards shows that the degree to which the standards are addressed varies depending on the program, the standards, and the grade level of the students. In the standards alignment maps, full alignment to a standard is shown by a green indicator and partial alignment by a yellow indicator. Full alignment to a standard is defined as being clearly addressed by program activities. Partial alignment is defined as have the potential to be addressed as part of program either by actions that the coach/mentor takes when working with the students or by conditions established by the program for that given year.
