Origin of Ballad Poetry Also called popular ballads, ballads were passed orally from generation to generation as songs. The song would usually tell a story and include a shock refrain (impacting repetition) without going into detail of setting, characterization, etc.

Characteristics of Ballad Poetry 1.Short event or story put into song. 2.Folk ballads are one stanza, literary ballads are more formal and can be composed of several stanzas. Structure: *4 Lines (quatrain) *One stanza *2nd and 4th line rhyme

I Will Always Love You by Dolly Parton If I should stay Well, I would only be in your way And so I’ll go, and yet I know That I’ll think of you each step of my way And I will always love you I will always love you Bitter-sweet memories That’s all I have, and all I’m taking with me Good-bye, oh, please don’t cry cause we both know that I’m not what you needI will always love you And I hope life, will treat you kind And I hope that you have all that you ever dreamed of Oh, I do wish you joy And I wish you happiness But above all this I wish you love I love you, I will always love I, I will always, always love you 1.Read the poem and listen to it as you would a story. Try to imagine the emotion of the speaker and the characters. 2.Click inside the heart to listen to the audio performed by Whitney Huston & see if this is similar to what you imagined.
