Boston Tea Party (1773) The Boston Tea Party was a turning point in American history. Before this, Americans were being taxed without representation in Parliament. This event was a turning point because it showed the Sons of Liberty directly protesting British taxation, and because it led to a series of harsh penalties on the colonies called the Intolerable Acts. However, the most important effect of the Boston Tea Party was that the Intolerable Acts forced the colonist to form militias which met the British in Lexington in 1775, starting the American Revolution.
