1 Now the L ORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, 2 “This month shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you.” Exodus 12:1-2
How will we, as Christians, bring in the New Year?
Should we number our years or our days? – Psa. 90:7-17 Counting on years is precarious, but focusing on the day is wise – cf. Jas. 4:13-17 What can we accomplish “today”? – cf. Matt. 6:34; 2 Cor. 6:1-2 Do we fully appreciate the frailty of life? – Psa. 39:4-5 Another Year or Another Day?
Should we enter the New Year looking behind us or looking ahead? – Phil. 3:12-14 What is our purpose for looking back and looking forward? What does how we mark the past and the future say about us? There is wisdom in both, when applied correctly… Godly sorrow drives us to bring forth fruits that show repentance moving forward – cf. 2 Cor. 7:10-11 God’s grace encourages us to move forward with hope and forgiveness and spirit to do better and be better as we strive to live in this world – cf. Rom. 6:3-4; 1 John 1:8-9; Tit. 2:11-14 Looking Back or Looking Forward?
9 What profit has the worker from that in which he labors? 10 I have seen the God-given task with which the sons of men are to be occupied. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end. 12 I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice, and to do good in their lives, 13 and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor—it is the gift of God. 14 I know that whatever God does, It shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, And nothing taken from it. God does it, that men should fear before Him. 15 That which is has already been, And what is to be has already been; And God requires an account of what is past. Ecclesiastes 3:9-15
1 Oh, sing to the L ORD a new song! Sing to the L ORD, all the earth. 2 Sing to the L ORD, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. 3 Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples. Psalm 96:1-3
