1:6-9- Following a Different Gospel Result? They were deserting Christ We cannot teach different things and all follow Jesus! 1 Corinthians 4:17 For this reason I have sent to you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, and he will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, just as I teach everywhere in every church.

How much gospel can be changed before it is a “distorted” gospel? Galatians 1:8-9 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!9. As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed! ANY distortion means it’s NOT Christ’s gospel.

2:4-6, 11- Being Influenced by Men 3:1- “Who has bewitched you?”

1 Corinthians 4:6 Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, so that in us you may learn not to exceed what is written, so that no one of you will become arrogant in behalf of one against the other.

Colossians 2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.

Christians have learned much “new knowledge” today also. 50’s- sponsoring church 60’s- institutionalism 80’s- evangelistic oversight 90’s- charismatic, tongue speaking This decade? –Baptism is out, Instrumental music is in –Difference in churches is no matter

3:1-5- Growing Away from Foundation 5:7-8- Had gone from “running well” to “hindered” Leaving New Testament foundations is NOT new growth, it is is a distorted gospel.

5:9-10- Were Becoming Leavened Leavening influence is not just an influence toward the same sin. 1 Corinthians 5:6 Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough? 1 Corinthians 5:2 -leavened to ignore sin in the body 1 Corinthians 5:9-11 -leavened to improper associations

5:9-10- Were Becoming Leavened Leavening influence is not just an influence toward the same sin. What was the leaven of these false teachers? 1.Their soundness was in question 2.Attitude toward true teachers was changing 3.Starting to attack one another

5:9-10- Were Becoming Leavened Leavening influence is not just an influence toward the same sin. There is ALWAYS an influence in leaving the truth/light. We will either walk by the Spirit or by the flesh. Galatians 6:7

When It Comes To… Our teaching and practice, 1:8-9 –We need to stick with the original pattern Being influenced by teachers, 1:10-11 –Need to remember that men cannot save –And putting up with them can influence Healthy spiritual growth, 5:24-25 –Need to walk by the Spirit –Need to stay with the same foundation
