STUDENTS WILL LEARN TO SHOW A LOCATION USING LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE BY USING AN ATLAS. Latitude and Longitude

Warm Up: What are some ways we can find a location on a map? Can you find Peru?

Homework: Read pages define the 7 key terms listed on page 28.

Now can you find Peru? Maps do not always have the countries names listed.

A little math in Social Studies When you cut a circle in half what do you get?

How is the Earth cut in half? Equator: An imaginary line that divides the Earth in half between North and South. Prime Meridian: An imaginary line that divides the Earth in half East and West Draw this into your source book. It is called a compass rose.

How can Hemispheres help with Geography? Cutting the Earth into 4 parts allows us to use the parts to locate places

IMPORTANT! The Equator and Prime Meridian are always 0*!

How do we use latitude and longitude 1 st remember. Latitude comes first and then Longitude. ***Think alphabetically LA comes before LO 0*,60W let’s see where that is. What country would be 60*N, 75*E?

Work Time: Using your atlas find the following locations. Group A: Pgs  40*N, 105*W, 45*N, 70*W and 30*N, 95*W Group B: Pg. 75  20*N,10*W, 20*S, 30*E and 0*,10*E Group C:  65*N, 140*W, 15*S, 60*W and 30*N,60*E
