CHARACTERISTICS OF NONFICTION

Nonfiction deals only with real people, events, or ideas. It is narrated or told from the author’s perspective (point of view). Nonfiction has a tone that reflects the writer’s attitude toward the subject. Nonfiction reflects a writer’s purpose, reason for writing. This might be to explain, persuade, inform, or entertain.

Types of Nonfiction 1.Literary Nonfiction Biographies tell the stories of someone’s life. They are usually written in third person point of view. Autobiographies tell the stories of the author’s life and are usually written in first person point of view. Memoirs and personal narratives are real memories about specific events.

2.Informational Texts Essays are brief written works on a particular subject Procedural Texts tell how to complete a task, solve a problem, or perform procedures. They are often written in second person. Speeches are works that are delivered orally to an audience.
