WHERE DO I FIND IT? By Jim and Justin

You need to find a synonym for the word “good”, where do you find it?  A thesaurus is a reference book that lists the synonyms of many words. Words are arranged in alphabetical order. There are guide words at the top of the page to help you locate a word.  thesaurus.com is a website that allows you to enter the word you are searching for in the search box.  An encyclopedia may also have a map you need if you have enough information about the location such as country, state, etc.

You need to find a map of Mali, Africa, where do you find it?  An Atlas is a book of maps. An atlas can be organized in many different ways such as by continent. The best way to locate the information you are looking for is to use the index of the atlas.  Maps.yahoo.com is a website that will help you locate a map

You need to find information for a report on turtles, where do you find it?  An encyclopedia such as World Book will have information on turtles. Encyclopedias are sets of books called volumes. When looking up turtles you would look in the T volume and use the guide words at the top of the page to locate the turtle information.  A trade book on turtles or amphibians will have information on turtles.  A database such as Grolier for Laguna library site  A website such as or
