F IND Y OUR Y ES ! E NERGY W EEK 7 – T HE P OWER OF T EAM AND S EQUENCING
2
This lesson tends to create the most rejection when we’re working with our students. There will be plenty of excuses or reasons why you cannot find team, cannot develop resources in your community or cannot go out in public. It’s also the number one reason that many people fail with significant life changes such as making money, losing weight, or eating better. The teams we talk about are about ALL areas of life and the teams may be different in each area.
3
FOLLOWING YOUR PROGRESS Where are you facing the problem of perfection and how will you move out of that rejection? Where do you lead energy and where do you need to conserve or protect? What are your big actions to complete?
4
OPEN YOUR BOOK In my town, we had to team up if we wanted to get anything done, so I learned about teamwork early on. Since there weren’t that many kids in my school, if we wanted to have a basketball team, everyone had to join, even if some weren’t good at it. Similarly, if we wanted to put on a play, every kid had to take part in the drama club so we could get the show on the stage. That’s why I played softball—so the softball players could play their sport, and so that, in turn, I could be out there excelling in basketball with the softball players who’d joined to make a full team. Talk about imperfection. -Chapter Thirteen of Yes! Energy

“F INDING ” THE TIME All successful people in the world have the same 24 hours you do. Team is what gives you the best use of that 24 hours. Team prevents you from being “busy” and encourages productivity.
6
“F INDING ” THE TIME When our central focus is staying busy, we actually move off our goals. Team is needed for all areas: Professional/Business Personal/Home Priority Management Coaching/Mentoring
7
D O TEAMS COST MONEY ? Instead of focusing on the cost, understand how much you are MAKING by having that team in place. First cash should go to cleaning up “busy work.” Spend the time you get back on your highest and best uses.
8
T HE VALUE OF AN HOUR Every hour of effective time is worth an increasing amount of money. What is your time worth? What will future team members be worth in YOUR time or THEIR time? What areas will give you back the most time?
9
D O L ESS, M AKE M ORE Your team is normally directly related to your success. Constantly enroll others, whether they’re team, support, mentors or more. Engage your team in your attitude. Give your team freedom to push you and challenge you based on THEIR gifts.
10
B ASICS OF H IRING Team isn’t about convenience or who is around you right now. Look for those who both complement and challenge. Have faith in their strengths and don’t smother their gifts. Don’t allow friends/family and team to collide.
11
MODEL BUT DON’T COMPARE! Notice that many who are successful in business realize they are not an expert in anything. The “how to” was figured out long ago. Someone knows how. Always look “upward” rather than “side to side.” Model based on what fits your values and passion.
12
CONTROL VS. CONTROLLING Energy drives and inspires a team. By doing what you NEED to do you are allowing them to do what they need. No one will work like you and that’s GOOD. Not everything has to be done exactly your way.
13
C REATING A S EQUENCE Often, people understand where they are and know where they want to go, but the sequence of steps from here to there eludes them. They proceed forward, only to: (a) make too many wrong turns, (b) circle around one step, or (c) spend too long in that inefficient 20 percent. Proper sequencing is probably one of the most important steps in life and in business. People who know how to efficiently get from here to there, who can see their way through a process, are more effective than most. -Chapter Fourteen of Yes! Energy
14
THE SEQUENCE FOR CASH This is the sequence used at the Three Days to Cash Workshop that guarantees cash: Define your skill set. Model a similar business. Create a revenue model. Begin marketing. Enlist a team. Ask for the cash!
15
SEQUENCING YOUR SUPPORT Communication: Sequencing of communication is not manipulative or passive-aggressive. It’s done in a straightforward manner, with a thoughtful consideration of the listener’s ability to absorb the information. Thinking of how the information will be received before it’s given ensures that a proper sequence of communication, in any situation, can be delivered. Action: Proper sequencing can be all the difference between failure and success in any endeavor. For instance, in many start-up companies, you have to sell first. Planning: The reason why so many ventures fail before they get off the ground is because they get stuck in the planning process. Mapping out one’s entire sequence means that nothing will happen. Action—and by this I mean sales—must occur as part of, not following, the planning sequence.
16
SEQUENCING CONVERSATION Understanding a sequence makes it a “when” conversation, not a “what” or “how.” Focus on the right things first. Activate your gifts. Bust any cycles or patterns you currently honor.
17
T ESTING S EQUENCES The following steps will help you test and refine any order. View it. Undo it. Time it out. Identify where you will be flexible and adapt.
18
Determine the value of an hour of your EFFECTIVE time. Using the exercises from past weeks, identify where team can support your weaknesses or address your challenges. Maintain a journal of ALL of tomorrow’s activities: What activities should you continue? What should be outsourced?
